What are the reasons for seeking a comprehensive psychological evaluation?

Identify School Related Disabilities - Our licensed providers are able to conduct educational evaluations that can be used by schools to determine eligibility for disabilities such as Specific Learning Disability (e.g., Reading, Writing, Math, Fluency), Emotional Disability (e.g, Depression and/or Anxiety), Autism, Intellectual Disability, Developmental Disability, Speech and/or Language Impairment, and Other Health Impairment (e.g., Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder). Evaluations are also used to inform school based teams regarding the level of services needed and the appropriate placement for services.

Mental Health Diagnosis - Effective treatment planning and psychotherapy begins with an accurate evaluation and diagnosis. Although traditional evaluations focus on pathology and impairment in functioning, our evaluations utilize a strengths based approach which identifies areas of positive functioning and indicators of favorable treatment response. Common referral questions include the identification of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, substance use disorders, personality disorders, trauma, and dementia.  Reports are used to inform treatment planning including possible complications.

Identify neuropsychological problems - A neuropsychological evaluation, also called neuropsychological testing, is an in-depth assessment of skills and abilities linked to brain function. The evaluation measures such areas as attention, problem solving, memory, language, intelligence, visual-spatial skills, academic skills, and social-emotional functioning.

Accommodations for Standardized Testing and College - If you are diagnosed with a condition which penalizes you for slow performance, you may be given significantly more time in the classroom for exams. You may qualify for extra time while taking the SAT, GRE, ACT, LSAT, MCAT, GMAT, or USMLE as well as classroom accommodations in school or university.

Private School Admission Testing and Evaluation for Gifted Learner Programs - Often private schools have a mission of serving intellectually and creatively gifted learners. We are able to evaluate intelligence using various measures such as the Wechsler and Stanford-Binet tests. We are also able to conduct evaluations to address appeals for parents of children who were not accepted to public school gifted learner related programs.
